We have never wanted a drink like we want this drink: a fragrant lavender cocktail just in time for spring.
This is the world’s best beer, but good luck finding any. Pliny the Younger, a beer brewed by the Russian River Brewing Company, is so critically praised that it was nicknamed “Christ’s Blood.” Some hold lotteries for a single glass.
For IPA fans, who tend toward cultish obsession, Pliny the Younger’s annual winter release has become a kind of pagan holiday, a time when crisp, citrusy flavors hint at longer, brighter spring days to come. For the employees at Russian River, the event is a test of endurance.
Waits at the door in early February were upwards of four hours, with tasters traveling in from Sweden, Russia and Philadelphia. On a weekend, that translated to about 1,500 customers each day, nearly all of them there for one reason: a taste of the notorious ale. Served in 8-ounce miniature pint glasses and routinely tapped out by happy hour, a taste is pretty much all anyone got.
a recent gift from Michael. Anyone have any good recipes?
The Lion’s Tail
If this drink doesn’t say “Welcome Autumn” then I don’t know what does. I was pretty excited to find something to do with my All Spice Dram. Thanks to this book for the idea.
• 2 oz Bourbon
• ¾ oz All Spice Dram
• 1 oz Lime Juice
• ¼ oz Simple Syrup
• 2 dashes Angostura bitters
• Shake and Strain into a cocktail glass
